Sales profession Q&A Antonia O'Saul

Covid-19 and beyond: What's happening in the Sales profession?
Q&A with Antonia O'Saul

Antonia O'Saul, Recruitment Consultant - Sales & Business Development

What would be your advice to employers looking to hire Sales talent in the UAE?

It’s a great time to hire. Mass restructuring and redundancies in the market has resulted in there being many strong candidates looking for work, and there are many others open to new opportunities due to instability at their place of work.

What skills have proven to be most resilient / in demand for Sales professionals in light of the pandemic?

Account management and networking skills have been crucial for Sales professionals during the pandemic. Keeping connected to clients has enabled easier interactions for business coming out of the pandemic.

What advice would you give to Sales professionals looking for new job opportunities in the UAE?

Be persistent, keep applying, following up and chasing jobs that you are interested in. Reach out to people in your networks. If you are patient and proactive an opportunity will arise.

Is remote working likely to increase going forward?

For sure! Covid-19 has pushed many companies who had no options of remote working to implement systems which allow their employees to successfully work from home. The companies that already had this technology in place had smoother transitions and were less affected by lockdown regulations. I also believe going forward that employees will favour employers who have flexible working structures and companies will therefore have to ensure they have these in place to be able to attract the best talent.

Now we are heading into the summer period, have you seen many new vacancies arise?

Summer is usually a quieter time across the region but as travel is somewhat more limited this year I do believe that there will be more job opportunities arising. In the last 12 weeks that we have been back in the office, we have already seen an increase in the number of sales jobs available.

Finally, did you bake banana bread or learn a TikTok dance over the lockdown period?

I actually didn’t do either! Cookies were my lockdown baking habit. I mastered an insane cookie bake with around 5 different types of chocolate bars in it. It definitely helped to have something yummy on those long lockdown days!
